About

Our Mission

Kentucky En Garde is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to advancing the sport of fencing by nurturing talented local foil fencers for national and global competitions. We support this development by funding vital resources, including training, equipment, coaching, and logistical support to local fencing clubs and fostering a culture of excellence and achievement.

Our education initiatives aim to further equip fencing coaches to improve their skills in training, coaching and kinesiology. 

Facilities and Equipment

Gear Support

Provide funds for specific facility improvements and fencing equipment improvements.

Access to top competition
Develop New  Fencing Talent

Meeting Travel Needs

Growing the Sport

Support travel expenses for Central Kentucky fencers to compete in national and international events.  Support travel expenses for eligible elite fencers to visit facilities in Kentucky to enable access for local fencers to top national and international competition.

Support introductory classes to recruit new athletes to the sport and to provide widespread exposure of the sport as an opportunity to residents of Central Kentucky.

Our 2026 Board Members

Frank Thomiszer
Frank's competitive career spans more than 50 years, includes an "A" rating in foil and is a 3x USA team member at World Championships.  Frank is the founder of Bluegrass Fencers’ Club and remains actively involved in teaching and developing adult fencers.  As a retired IT executive and business owner he focuses on advancing the Kentucky En Garde mission.
Justin Fraser, M.D.
Justin is excited to work on the KEG Board. While a novice fencer himself, he is a ‘veteran’ fencing parent to Morgan and Rhys, who keep him and his wife, Claire, busy traveling to wonderful places to compete. He is excited to help develop the sport of fencing in central Kentucky!
Lee Kiefer, OLY
Lee is a 4x Olympian and 3x gold medalist in women’s foil fencing. She has been a central Kentucky fencer for over 20 years. While currently a professional fencer, she is also the co-founder of KM Fencing where she enjoys working with young athletes. 
Heba Deifalla
Heba is the parent of two fencers, Farida and Amina, and her involvement in the sport has been shaped through supporting their training and development. This experience has given her a meaningful perspective on the dedication, discipline, and community that fencing fosters. She is excited to be part of  Kentucky En Garde and the fencing community in central Kentucky.
